Trip Leader: What Can I Do To Prepare?

We get this question a lot, and frankly, that shows the caliber of people who apply to be HXP Trip Leaders.

There’s a lot of things we could say here, but it ultimately comes down to one thing: our Builders. If you haven’t learned this yet, our #1 priority is our Builders. We’re obsessed with these kids, and thus we take the role of our Trip Leaders very seriously.

If you haven’t applied, take some time to think about your application. What can you highlight about yourself that shows  we can trust you with 19 kids in a foreign country? We give our Trip Leaders a lot of responsibility, which is why the application process is so competitive—we want to make sure that you’re up for it. If you’re wondering about what we look for in our candidates, click here.

If you’ve already applied and are in the application process, take some time to think about what you’ve learned thus far about what it means to be a HXP Trip Leader, what it will take and require of you, and what kind of time you will need to put into your kids and their lives. If you’re looking to take a long vacation in a foreign country, this probably isn’t the right fit for you. It’s definitely going to be hard, but it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your entire life.

Being a a HXP Trip Leader will give you new best friends, experiences you’ll look back on for the rest of your life, lessons you’ll carry with you forever, and a new perspective of the world.

If you’ve already interviewed, take the message that our CEO Amy Antonelli says at the end of each interview: These kids need all the help they can get. Whether you become a HXP Trip Leader or not, consider asking the Lord what you can do to serve His children right now. There are so many amazing opportunities to serve, sometimes right in your backyard. Look around, open your heart, and trust God to show you what you can do right now.
