The 2022 Season is getting ready to begin! For those of you who are new around here, welcome to HumanitarianXP (formerly HEFY)! We already love you. For those coming back for another shot of miracles, we can’t wait to see your beautiful faces again. It’s going to be our 25th year, and after adding more than 50% new spots to this year’s roster, 2022 is shaping up to be the greatest summer in HXP history. Now that our 2022 locations are live, you’ll find a lot of locations that are finally opening again after a very long three years, and a bunch of brand new locations we are opening for the very first time. Next week, we will send an email detailing how Registration Week (December 8-12) works logistically, but you’ll choose your top 10 preferences and enter our lottery to find out where you’ll be going. Sign Up for Our Mailing List OK, so here’s what you need to know about the 2022 experiences. As always, you can choose from different locations featuring three separate experiences described below. Take a look at them all and start thinking about which one feels right for you so you’ll be ready in November when registration week opens on the 8th! BUILD The “OG” HEFY experience—the one where you and your group go somewhere that needs a little help, and you build something to make people’s lives better like a school or a hospital. Depending on your age, you can choose from locations on nearly every continent. The majority of our participants do “BUILD” and change their own lives as they change the lives of others. What is BUILD? REFUGE This used to be called “Youth Refugee Coalition”—the one where you and your group go into refugee camps around the world and help people who have been displaced from their homes by war or economic hardship. (One of these trips has an 18+ requirement imposed by the camps, so make sure you pay attention to that when you’re considering your preferences.) What is REFUGE? SUMMIT Previously called “Youth Summit Jerusalem”—the one where you and your group explore the history and conflicts of a special place and together consider what that means for you today. These trips go deep and they’ll change your life in ways you’ll never expect. This year we will hold SUMMIT in two places: Jerusalem, for 16- to 19-year-olds, and Palmyra, New York for 14- to 16-year-olds. Learn more about Summit below. What is SUMMIT? 2022 Registration Week Humanitarian XP Registration week will run from November 8th – 12th. COVID-19 Vaccine On October 15, 2021, we made an announcement that the COVID-19 vaccine, not a negative test or antibody test, is required for all 2022 HXP Builders. As responsible humanitarians, we are uncomfortable bringing our groups into locations with limited health care access and potentially exposing them to the Coronavirus in the name of our own experience. While we understand that there are various opinions about the vaccine with valid concerns on both sides, this decision is final. The people we serve with often do not have the same opportunity to be vaccinated that we do, and we cannot put them at risk in good conscience. With 5,000 Builders, 300 Trip Leaders, and 47 global locations, our impact is expansive. While we wish we had the luxury of addressing cases at an individual level, we cannot. Here are some insights into why we, with a team of medical and legal professionals, made this decision:As responsible humanitarians, we are uncomfortable bringing our groups into locations with limited health care access and potentially exposing them to the Coronavirus in the name of our own experience. The people we serve with don’t have the same opportunity to be vaccinated that we do, and we cannot put them at risk in good conscience. This year, locals in the locations we serve have asked that if we came back to their area, we made sure to come back vaccinated. This agreement affects the locations we travel to, service projects we can do, and sightseeing opportunities we have access to. As COVID-19 vaccines are more widely distributed and accepted around the world, many locations are beginning to require vaccination for entry, and we expect this trend to continue. We are excited that so many trips are able to reopen this year because of our Builders’ vaccinated status! The FDA’s full approval of the vaccine solidified our decision to require it for our Builders and Trip Leaders. They’ve stated that all three COVID-19 vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J) are extremely effective at preventing serious illness, hospitalization, and death—even from the Delta variant. Additionally, these vaccines have been through intensive safety monitoring. If you have further questions or concerns about the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine, we encourage you to direct them to your healthcare provider. HXP Pro-Tip Go Alone. Trust us. You will have a significantly better experience if you go on your own, which most Builders do, because you’ll join a pack that is all open to making new friends. If you’re looking for a life-changing experience, this is the number one way to have it. For more tips about preparing for your HumanitarianXP trip, click here.
