Vanuatu is an island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. It is known for its stunning natural landscapes, including white sandy beaches, crystal-clear water, coral reefs and lush rainforests. However, because of its location in the pacific ocean and the Ring of Fire, it is prone to natural disasters, including cyclones, drought, and volcanic eruptions. Just from January 2023 to October 2023 it has been hit by 5 cyclones. These natural disasters cause extensive damage to the communities and their infrastructure.
Cyclones Judy and Kevin in early 2023 are estimated to have impacted 46% of the population. Many schools and healthcare facilities have been affected, with considerable damage reported. Many of these buildings have remained closed.
This summer, HXP Builders will be building classrooms for students whose classrooms were destroyed in these cyclones. Many students are currently learning in tents and are looking forward to the classrooms that we will help build for them!
