2024 Project Story — Malaysia: Build

Malaysia is no exception to the growing threat of rising food insecurity. In the 2022 Global Hunger Index, Malaysia scored moderately for hunger, with a small increase in the hunger index from 10.9 in 2014 to 12.5 in 2022, likely corresponding to a rise in food insecurity because of the pandemic. Data from the Malaysian Adult Nutrition Survey in recent years showed that up to 25% of the population faced insufficient food quantity and variety, with a higher prevalence observed among low-income households (33%–39%).To help solve this in-access to food, we are providing sustainable cultivation of fruits and vegetables through a revolutionary new type of farming.

Embark on a journey of empowerment and sustainable change with our impactful service project, “Garden Towers.” This initiative aims to create a lasting impact on communities in need by implementing innovative solutions. Builders will have the unique opportunity to personally connect with individual families and community members as they help build each Garden Tower and educate locals on how to maintain this life changing method of providing food for them and their families. The Garden Tower is not just a tower; it’s a beacon of hope, a solution designed to address the pressing issue of food insecurity worldwide.

Crafted from durable materials, each three-foot-diameter tower is a powerhouse, capable of nurturing up to 120 plants continuously. These towers serve as the foundation of our project to bring about positive change. “Garden Towers” is a revolutionary project that combines environmental sustainability with community well-being. Partnering with local communities, we aim to establish vertical garden towers. These towers are designed to provide communities with a sustainable source of fresh produce, fostering food security, and promoting a healthier lifestyle. Project objectives:

1. Food Security: Install vertical garden towers to cultivate a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, ensuring a consistent and accessible food source for the community.

2. Community Empowerment: Engage local residents in the process of tower installation, maintenance, and harvesting, empowering them with valuable skills and a sense of ownership.

3. Educational Outreach: Implement educational programs on sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and environmental conservation to promote long-term community resilience.

4. Environmental Impact: Reduce the ecological footprint by promoting vertical gardening, which maximizes space efficiency and minimizes water usage. The “Garden Towers” project envisions a future where communities thrive with sustainable agriculture, empowered individuals, and improved overall well-being. By fostering self-sufficiency, this initiative aims to break the cycle of poverty and create a resilient, green oasis for generations to come. Join us in sowing the seeds of positive change and watch as Garden Towers blossom into symbols of hope, sustainability, and community empowerment. Together, let’s cultivate a brighter future!
