We know you’ve probably had a few questions about COVID-19 testing before and during your trip. This blog will help answer those questions, and outline exactly when to take your COVID test before you leave.

Should I quarantine before I go?

We strongly suggest that you self-quarantine one week prior to your trip to help ensure a negative test result. If you do test positive, or do not receive a negative test result in time, we will do our best to put you on a later trip, but there is no guarantee this will be possible. You would need to pay for your new trip in full and there would be no refund for the original trip you were scheduled on.

Do I need to get tested before I leave?

No. You will, however, need to provide proof of full vaccination (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, or Johnson and Johnson vaccines) within the last nine months or full vaccination with a booster dose if your full vaccination was more than nine months before your trip leave date.

Will I have to take any more COVID tests once I'm on my trip?

COVID tests upon arrival are not required unless travelers show extreme symptoms. The U.S. recently announced that Covid tests are no longer required to return to the U.S. at the end of your trip. All money that has already been paid for these tests will be refunded to you from HXP.

COVID Vaccine Requirements?

The COVID-19 vaccine is required for all 2022 HXP participants. You will need to bring your physical vaccine card with you on your trip. Do not laminate or modify your vaccine card in any way.

If you are not fully vaccinated or bring a counterfeit vaccine card you will not be allowed on your HXP trip.

A booster dose is required if you were fully vaccinated more than nine months before you arrive in Greece. We will continue to stay up to date with current news in Greece and strongly encourage that you do the same. Updated COVID requirements can be found here.

Greece has authorized Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

Are there any other COVID requirements?

Prior to travel, Builders are required to fill out this health form. Everyone will need to fill it out on their own, but Builders will do it at the airport before boarding, and Trip Leaders will be available to help.

High protection (N95 or FFP2) or double masks are required indoors and outdoors in Greece.

What happens if I test positive while on my trip?

If you test positive for COVID-19 while on your trip, you will be required to quarantine at your own expense. We recommend obtaining health insurance to cover this potential cost, in case you test positive while you are in Greece.

If you test positive, a five-day quarantine is required. The quarantine period starts the day after the positive diagnosis. If symptoms have receded after 5 days and you’re feverless for 24 hours without the use of antipyretic, you will be released from quarantine. If fever insists, you will remain in isolation until the fever has fully receded. You must wear high protection (FFP2 or N95) masks for at least five days after isolation.

You've got this!

Now take a deep breath. It may seem like a lot, but we’ll have you out and serving on your trip in no time!

With love,

Your HXP Trip
